Police seek witnesses following attempted armed robbery at Betfred betting shop

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an attempted armed robbery at the Betfred betting shop on Poplars Avenue, Orford, Warrington, on Monday afternoon.
The incident, which involved two men wearing balaclavas entering the premises, possibly armed with a firearm, resulted in a huge police presence, including armed officers and the police helicopter being deployed.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At around 2.35 pm on Monday, October 27, police were called to a betting shop on Poplars Avenue, Warrington.
“This was following reports of an attempted armed robbery.
“The caller reported that two men had entered the shop and threatened a shop worker, before fleeing the scene empty-handed.
“The men were described as wearing dark-coloured clothing and balaclavas, and they were possibly armed with a firearm.
“Officers, supported by the firearms unit and the police helicopter, were deployed to the scene to conduct a search of the area, but were unable to trace the suspects.
“Enquiries in relation to this incident are currently ongoing and, as part of their investigation, officers are appealing to anyone with information or video footage to get in touch.”
