ICYMI: President Obama Joins Proposition 50 Virtual Volunteer Livestream Event with Governor Newsom

CALIFORNIA – Wednesday, October 22, Governor Newsom was joined by President Barack Obama for a virtual Zoom meeting and livestream event in support of Prop 50, where they convened thousands of grassroots volunteers and supporters to stress the importance of passing Prop 50 and thanked volunteers for their critical work to get out the vote ahead of the election on November 4th.
“It is important for all of you to understand that what is at stake here is not simply how many delegates from Democratic Party or Republican Party are elected in 2026. There’s a broader principle at stake that has to do with whether or not our democracy can be manipulated by those who are already empowered to entrench themselves further, or whether we’re going to have a system that allows the people to decide who’s going to represent them,” President Obama said during the virtual event. “I could not be more appreciative of the work that Governor Newsom and the people of California are doing and saying, Stop. This is not how American democracy is supposed to operate. And that’s what Prop 50 is about. And it has critical implications, not just for California, but for the entire country.”
