Melissa and Another Low Pressure System Bringing Wet, Windy Weather to Island

(via The Canadian Hurricane Centre)

It’s going to be a messy night for trick-or-treating with two weather systems impacting the province tonight.

Both of the systems, one of which is the remnants of Hurricane Melissa, will bring wind and rain to the island.

Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says Melissa is expected to pass just to the southeast of the Avalon Peninsula in the overnight hours.

While the harshest weather conditions will remain offshore, the system will bring with it some heavy rain and gusty winds.

He says with both systems all areas of the island will see heavy rain at some point tonight. In terms of Melissa and the Avalon Peninsula specifically, he says wind gusts will be up around 80 km/h late in the evening and overnight.
