Amitabh Bachchan tells Diljit Dosanjh he has given up alcohol, is impressed by the singer’s intelligence: ‘Wo jo Punjab ki special quality hoti hai…’

Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh is set to appear on Amitabh Bachchan’s reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati 17. The makers have released many heartfelt and nostalgic promo videos from the upcoming episode. In one of the clips, the host Amitabh can be seen confessing that he quit drinking ‘Punjab’s special’ alcohol. In another, Diljit admitted that he didn’t like the veteran star’s 1991 film Saudagar, during his childhood.

In a teaser revealed by Sony TV, the singer can be seen asking Big B about alcohol in code language. “Aapne bhi sir vo chocolate wala doodh peeya tha, mujhe yaad hai (I remember you drank the chocolate milk). I used to think how is he so fit even after drinking that,” he said. “Sir jo khaas quality hoti hai Punjab ki, vo toh humne chorr diya tha (I quit drinking the Punjab special drink),” Amitabh replied. The audience burst into laughter and applause with both of them also joining them.

Another promo showcased the veteran actor delivering one of his most iconic and memorable dialogues from his film Khuda Gawah. In his own style and charisma, he said, “Sar zameen-e-hindustan, as salaam alaikum! Mera naam Baadshah Khan hai. Ishq mera mazhab, mohabbat mera iman hai.”

Diljit Dosanjh mesmerised the audience and Amitabh himself, with his beautiful voice. He offered prayers to God and started with ‘Nanak Aadh Jugaadh Jiyo‘ and ‘Khuda Gawah‘, and set the stage on fire like his concerts with ‘Ikk Kudi‘ ‘Do You Know’, and more of his much-loved bangers.

Following this, the singer-actor recalled a loving story from one of his performances in Abu Dabi. “Hum sir Abu Dhabi mein ek show kar rahe the… waha ek bohot bada mosque hai. Waha unhone hume allow kiya visit karne ke liyetoh maine unko invite kiya ki aap humare show pe aayiye (Sir, we were performing in Abu Dhabi, where there’s a big mosque. They allowed us to visit it, and I invited one of the men there to attend our show),” he shared. Diljit added that the man didn’t know any of the Punjabi songs, but only Khuda Gawah.

In an old interview, Amitabh had revealed, “I don’t smoke, drink or eat meat. It isn’t anything religious but simply a matter of taste. In our family, my father is a vegetarian and my mother is not. Similarly, Jaya eats meat and I don’t. I used to eat meat – in fact, I used to drink and smoke as well but now I have given them up. In Calcutta I smoked 200 cigarettes a day – yes, that’s right, 200, but then I gave it up after coming to Bombay. I used to drink too – anything, we’d drink anything we could get our hands on but then I decided I didn’t really need it.”

The upcoming episode of KBC 17 will air on Sony TV on October 31, at 9:00pm and will also be available to stream on Sony Liv.
