Over 90,000 chainsaw units are being recalled over concerns that the machine’s chain brake may not activate, posing a laceration risk.

Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. of Brookfield, Wisconsin, is recalling approximately 90,860 units of its model 2826-20 M18 FUEL Top Handle Chainsaws with either a 12″ or 14″ bar, according to a notice published on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website on Oct. 30.

About 7,500 of the units were sold in Canada, while approximately 83,360 were sold in the U.S.

Here’s what to know about the recall.

Which chainsaw is being recalled?

The recalled units can be identified with the letter “A” in the product’s serial number, the notice states. The catalog number can be found on the upper right portion of the product’s nameplate.

The chainsaw is battery-operated and is sold either individually as a bare tool that includes a chain and bar cover and blade wrench, or as a kit that includes two M18 batteries, an M18 battery charger, a chain and bar cover and a blade wrench, according to the notice.

Where was the recalled chainsaw sold?

The product was sold at home improvement stores, including Home Depot, and online at homedepot.com from March 2023 through September 2024. The chainsaw is sold for about $350 for the tool only, or $790 with batteries and a charger.

Recalled chainsaw led to injury

The company said it has received two reports of the chain not activating, including one injury involving a lacerated finger.

What to do if you have the recalled chainsaw

The company is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled chainsaw and contact Milwaukee Tool for a free repair.

Customers who purchased the product should also register it at www.service.milwaukeetool.com/support/eservice to receive a prepaid shipping label to return the chainsaw to Milwaukee Tool for repair.
