Cameron Norrie [7] def Arthur Cazaux 6-7(1) 7-6(7) 6-2
Cameron Norrie is into the Metz quarter-finals after a tough three set win over Arthur Cazaux. The match lasted just under three hours in this war of attrition which Norrie was victorious in. Last year’s finalist made the perfect start to the match as he broke in a long opening game. Just like in his previous rounds, Norrie was effective on serve and solidified his good start even saving break point to take a 3-1 lead.
However, Cazaux was growing into the match on home soil and was proactive as well as aggressive on return. After securing a love service hold, Cazaux earned the break back with a consistent return game as he forced the errors from Norrie. Despite the setback, Norrie bounced back well but need to defy a late surge from the Frenchman in order to force a tiebreak. A set point was saved as the first of two tiebreaks was about to be played. A composed Cazaux was dominant in the tiebreak as he took a gruelling opening set.
If the first set was physical then the second set put the opening set to shame. There were no breaks of serve but there were plenty of opportunities for Norrie who created four chances to break down Cazaux’s consistent serving. However, Norrie was inefficient and showed a lack of ambition on the break points making things easy for Cazaux. The second set would be decided by a tiebreak which was a lot tighter than the first one. It was Norrie who won all the big points to convert his third set point and force this match into a deciding set.
The British number two had a lot more stamina and physical qualities than Cazaux did and that showed in the final. Two comfortable breaks of serve put Norrie in control as Cazaux had nothing to offer on return in the deciding set. A hold to 15 secured the victory for Norrie as he booked his place in the Metz quarter-finals.

Playing Styles and Prediction
After a poor run of results, Jacquet has finished the year well after winning a Challenger title in China. Now Jacquet has made the most of his lucky loser entry into the main draw as he is into the quarter-finals in Metz and will be targeting a rapid rise up the rankings to end the season.
Norrie will aim to be proactive on serve but will need to show more bravery on break points in order to convert his chances a bit more consistently on return. Meanwhile Jacquet will aim to finish points off at the net and will need to improve his first serve percentage. After a slow start, Norrie should use experience and physicality to reach the semi-finals in Metz.
Prediction: Norrie in straight sets.
