Mississippi State had its breakthrough first SEC win under second-year coach Jeff Lebby against Arkansas.
Now it will try to pull a major upset on Saturday Nov. 8 against a No. 5 Georgia football team chasing a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Mississippi State (5-4, 1-4 SEC) snapped a 16-game SEC losing steak with 38-35 victory against the Razorbacks. It will now try to win back-to-back conference games for the first time since beating Texas A&M and Arkansas in October 2022.
Mississippi State this season lost in overtime to Tennessee and Texas A&M and by two to Florida.
“If you really take a deep dive into their season, they’ve been in all one score games,” Georgia offensive tackle Earnest Greene said.
Except this time Mississippi State came out on the winning side in an SEC game.
“We needed that win,” defensive lineman Trevion Williams said. “It was a big win for us. It felt good, it felt great. We’ve just to keep stacking and build some more wins.”
