Keanu Reeves’ Supernatural Comedy With 77% RT Takes Wings on Digital After Box Office Flop
Good Fortune, the supernatural comedy starring Keanu Reeves as a hilarious guardian angel, is finally taking flight with its arrival on digital platforms. It failed to break even during its theatrical run last month.
FlixPatrol reports that Good Fortune has shot straight to the top of the PVOD charts, hailing as the #1 movie on iTunes in both the United States and Canada. The film was released on digital storefronts on Nov. 7, meaning it didn’t take long at all for fans to catapult Good Fortune to the top. It remains to be seen how long it will be able to reign supreme on the iTunes charts, but it’s likely to face stiff competition from another recent release: Black Phone 2, which hit digital on Nov. 4 and has now slid to #2. The horror sequel gave Good Fortune a run for its money during their competing theatrical releases and ultimately came out on top.
Good Fortune was written and directed by Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari in his feature directorial debut, and saw a star-studded cast that included Seth Rogen, Ansari, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh in addition to Reeves. The plot saw Reeves’ character, an angel by the name of Gabriel, struggling with the consequences of his actions after he body swaps two men (Ansari and Rogen) to try and show them that money can’t solve one’s problems. As chaos (and hilarity) ensues, Gabriel loses his wings and tries to make things right again.
The Reeves-led movie has received positive reviews from critics, but it wasn’t enough to help it succeed at the box office. The film had a budget of $30 million, but failed to even earn that back — its worldwide box office receipts came in at $22 million. While it may have surpassed Black Phone 2 on iTunes at the time of writing, it wasn’t able to do the same during its opening weekend; it finished third, lagging behind the horror sequel as well as another box-office flop: Tron: Ares.
While Good Fortune may not have attracted enough people to see it in theaters, those who did go out to watch the film largely enjoyed the supernatural comedy story. It has a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a critics’ score of 77% from 135 reviews, and an even higher audience rating at 81% from over 1,000 verified user reviews. The site’s consensus calls the film a promising debut from Ansari that offers “socially-minded humor.” Critics also often praised Reeves’ ‘heavenly’ comedic timing.
Good Fortune Plans a Physical Release in Time for Christmas

As Good Fortune begins its digital PVOD domination, it has yet to announce an official streaming release date. It does, however, have a planned physical release, with a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD formats planned to hit stores on Dec. 9, 2025. It will come with a host of bonus features, including an audio commentary with Ansari and more.
The film marks Reeves’ latest release to date, but the John Wick actor already has several more comedy projects lined up for the future. He is set to star in Jonah Hill’s black comedy Outcome as well as a satirical comedy with Kirsten Dunst called The Entertainment System is Down. Both films are currently in post-production but do not have release dates at this time.
