Experts urges Wildcats: ‘Double-team Bryce’

The Sydney Kings laid the blueprint a few weeks ago, now one NBL champion has urged the Perth Wildcats to take the same approach when trying to slow down five-time MVP Bryce Cotton.
Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre will mark Cotton’s first against the Wildcats, who he spent nine seasons with and won three championships.
But if Cotton’s former side are going to have any chance of victory, NBL champion Damon Lowery has urged Perth to double-team the 33-year-old at ‘every opportunity’.
“If they try to play him one-on-one, that is basketball suicide and he will get loose for 40-plus,” Lowery told The West Australian.
“If they take the tactic that the Sydney Kings did and double-team him every time he comes off any kind of dribble hand-off or any type of ball screen, you will be looking at something civilised.
“So if they can execute that, they could be okay. But he will try to wear them down and take advantage of any cracks or any slack defence. Nobody can guard Bryce one-on-one, so the help guy has to have some size.”
Sunday’s fixture tips off at 2.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN and Channel 10.
