Backup camera malfunction prompts Toyota to recall more than 1 million vehicles

Toyota is recalling more than one million popular Toyota, Lexus, and Subuaru Solterra vehicles that have a malfunctioning backup camera, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Certain models from 2022-2026 that are equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system are being recalled, according to the announcement. A software glitch may cause the vehicle backup camera to freeze or display a blank screen when the car is in reverse.
In order to fix the glitch, Toyota dealers will update the parking assist software for affected vehicles free of charge. Letters will be mailed out to affected owners by Dec. 16, according to the NHTSA.
More than 100 different models and model years are affected by the recall. In total, more than one million vehicles are covered by the Oct. 30 recall notice, according to USA Today.
The popular Toyota Prius (model years 2023-2025) and Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid (model year 2025) are affected by the recall. In addition, the Toyota RAV-4 (model years 2023-2025) and Lexus RX (model years 2023-2026) are affected.
Vehicle owners who believe they may be affected by the recall may call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and ask about recall numbers 25TB13 and 25LB06. Subaru’s customer service line is 1-800-782-2783, and the recall number for Subaru is WRE25.
Owners may also input your car’s information into the NHTSA recall database to see if it is affected by any recalls.
