Woman and child drown in Dandenong Creek tragedy

A woman and child have have drowned after they fell into a waterway and were swept away.
The pair fell into Dandenong Creek near Allan St in Dandenong, Melbourne, about 3.45pm on Monday, witnesses told police.
It is understood the woman was trying to help the child when she also got into difficulty.

“Police conducted a search of the area and located the unconscious pair, pulling them from the water and starting CPR,” Victoria Police said.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, they were unable to be revived and declared deceased at the scene.”
The pair have not yet been formally identified and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
One person posted on X, formerly Twitter, that there is “cops and SES everywhere”.
