Westwood, 68, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court for a hearing today.

He is charged with four counts of rape and nine counts of indecent assault.

The DJ is also accused of two counts of sexual assault.

Westwood allegedly carried out three indecent assaults at the BBC studios in London in the 1990s.

He is also accused of raping a woman at a London hotel in 1996 and sexually assaulted another at a music festival in the city around 20 years later.

The court heard he also allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a nightclub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, in 2010.

The youngest alleged victim is a 17-year-old girl who was indecently assaulted in South West London in 1983.

Two other complainants were aged between 17 and 18 when they were allegedly attacked by the star.

All the alleged offences are said to have taken place in London and Stroud.

Westwood, who returned from Nigeria last week, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

He was bailed on the condition he does not contact directly or indirectly any prosecution witnesses.

Westwood will next appear at Southwark Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on December 5.

The charges came after an investigation by the BBC accused Westwood of inappropriate behaviour.

The BBC Board previously apologised following a review which said the corporation “did not take adequate action” after learning of concerns regarding his alleged behaviour.

Westwood has previously said he “strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour”.

The DJ stepped down from his show at Capital Xtra in the wake of the claims.

He is the son of former Anglican Bishop of Peterborough Bill Westwood.

Westwood rose to fame hosting the first nationally-broadcast rap show on UK radio from 1994.
