Sunderland have ruffled the feathers of Newcastle fans ahead of the upcoming Tyne-Wear Derby.
The Black Cats are still riding the crest of a wave following their promotion to the Premier League, and they currently sit fourth in the table heading into the November international break.
Brian Brobbey netted a stoppage-time equaliser for Sunderland against Arsenal on Saturday evening, as they battled back to earn a hard-fought point and bring the Gunners’ 10-game winning run in all competitions to a close.
Regis Le Bris’ side have been the surprise package of the 2025-26 campaign so far, and their first Tyne-Wear Derby in the league for over nine years is rapidly approaching on the horizon.

Newcastle fans are scared ahead of derby clash
Sunderland have received praise from all quarters after their eye-catching start on their return to the top-flight, but the game that the fans have been waiting for is yet to come.
The Mackems are set to welcome their bitter rivals to the Stadium of Light on 14 December, in what promises to be a typically explosive clash.
The Tyne-Wear Derby has produced some incredible moments over the years, and Le Bris’ men will surely fancy their chances of securing a positive result when the latest instalment rolls around.
Newcastle are still winless away from home in the Premier League so far this season, and their defeat at Brentford on Sunday has left them in a lowly 14th place.
The growing frustrations at St James’ Park have been made evident by the announcement on X that the ticket application window is open ahead of their trip to Wearside next month.
- @Sam25Taylor via X: “Can we postpone the game pls?”
- @NUFC_Bristol_ via X: “No thank you. Bad enough losing to everyone else away let alone them.”
- @crypt0_haz via X: “Going to get absolutely battered.”
Newcastle fans are clearly filled with fear ahead of the game, with one supporter even suggesting they will miss the game because they are “washing their hair” that day.
Absolutely scandalous this allocation, the ground is clearly fine for over 7000 but now cut to 2500 , shocking and we need to make a stand

You should be giving them free, you honestly believe we have a chance playing the way we have this season? We are 14th for a reason..

Another Magpies fan branded the 2,528 away allocation from Sunderland as “scandalous,” while completely forgetting the fact that the two teams have already agreed on a reduced allocation in both encounters this term.
Sunderland haven’t lost to Newcastle in the league since 2011
Sunderland were beaten by Newcastle in their most recent clash in the FA Cup back in January 2024, but prior to that, their record in the derbies has been strong.
You have to go back to August 2011 for the last time they lost to their rivals in the league, when they were beaten by a Ryan Taylor free-kick as the only goal of the game.
Newcastle have failed to even score in five of the subsequent 10 league derbies, and given the teams’ contrasting starts to the season, Sunderland will surely be eyeing up the chance to inflict more pain on Eddie Howe’s men.
Their away record has been dire so far this term, and the Black Cats will be desperate to ensure that they don’t record their first win on their travels at their home ground.
