How to nominate a Detroit Free Press High School Athlete of the Week
Understanding our High School Athlete of the Week nomination process, submission method and deadlines.
It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Boys Prep Athlete of the Week.
This week’s poll features three football players whose performances stood out in the second round of the MHSAA football playoffs during the week of Nov. 2-8.
Voting will be open until noon on Friday, Nov. 14.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Lorenzo Barber, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
Barber’s performance for Orchard Lake led the Eagletts to defeat Brother Rice, 35-14, in a District 2 divisional championship match on Friday, Nov. 7. The junior receiver had 91 receiving yards to go with five catches, two resulting in touchdowns. He also rushed for one touchdown, part of his 34 rushing yards on six carries.
Kayd Coffman, East Kentwood
The Michigan State commit led East Kentwood to a 49-41 victory over Howell in a Division 1 district title game on Saturday, Nov. 8. Coffman completed 16 of 22 passes and threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed the ball nine times for 96 yards.
C.J. Salder, Cass Tech
The No. 1 senior in Michigan caught all three of his intended passes during Cass Tech’s 48-8 victory over Dearborn Fordson on Friday. Salder had 157 receving yards and three touchdowns and also scored a 68-yard punt return in the game.
