Almost three million households lose power as super typhoon Fung-wong leaves a trail of destruction in the Philippines

MANILA (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti): Super Typhoon Fung-Wong has left almost three million households without electricity in the Philippines, damaging over 30 roads as authorities rush to restore power and clear debris, the Philippine National Electrification Administration (NEA) said on Monday.

“A total of 2,931,220 member-consumer-owners are waiting for electricity services to be restored as the super typhoon passes,” the administration said on social media.

The typhoon struck the northeastern Philippines on Sunday, killing at least two and prompting the evacuation of around 1.4 million people.

According to the NEA, at least 20 electric utilities across 12 affected regions declared total power outages.

The Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways reported damage to 31 road sections across eight regions. All available resources have been mobilised nationwide to clear and repair affected infrastructure.

Following the typhoon, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered government agencies to prioritise evacuation, medical aid, debris removal, and road reconstruction, according to a statement from Claire Castro, his spokesperson.

The Chinese Meteorological Administration has urged residents to prepare for potential evacuations and assemble emergency kits pending the arrival of Super Typhoon Fung-Wong. A Level 3 emergency response, the second-highest response level, was activated. — BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
