Jets’ Samberg, Nyquist out against Canucks, but nearing return

The Winnipeg Jets are getting closer to having a pair of key players back in the lineup.

Defenceman Dylan Samberg and forward Gustav Nyquist are nearing a return to full contact, though they will not play Tuesday, head coach Scott Arniel told reporters.

Both players have been skating in non-contact yellow jerseys as they recover from injuries.

Samberg, 26, has been sidelined since suffering a broken left wrist during a pre-season game back on Sept. 27. The defenceman was initially expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Nyquist, 36, has been day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and last played on Oct. 30 against the Chicago Blackhawks. He had played in all 10 of Winnipeg’s previous games this season, logging four points, all assists.

Meanwhile, forward Morgan Barron has been upgraded from week-to-week to day-to-day, signalling progress in his recovery.

Forward Cole Koepke is also listed as day-to-day after being banged up in Friday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.
