Nick Nurse gives updates on injured Sixers stars Joel Embiid, Paul George

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing along with the 2025-26 season as they work to get themselves together while dealing with injuries to their star players.
While Joel Embiid has played six games thus far as he works his way back from left knee surgery in April, he is obviously not anywhere near the player he once was. As he works his way back, he was ruled out of Tuesday’s matchup with the Boston Celtics due to right knee soreness.
There isn’t any cause for alarms just yet, but coach Nick Nurse gave an update on the big fella before the matchup on Tuesday.
“So, we had shootaround today,” Nurse stated. “Obviously, a day off yesterday. He just reported a little soreness in his right knee. He’s had some imaging on that this afternoon and the doctors are here tonight to go over that with him.”
With the doctors at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Tuesday, one has to wonder if the Sixers are expecting an update with urgency. Nurse said it isn’t anything urgent, but there should be some sort of update after he meets with the doctors.
With that being said, one has to wonder if there is an expectation that Embiid will miss any extended period of time.
“No expectations at all,” said Nurse. “We’re gonna see what they say about the imaging.”
Nurse then explained that it wasn’t anything from a game. It was just from shootaround and the doctors want to check in on Embiid to make sure he’s OK.
“There’s no certain play or something like that they’ve been able to pinpoint,” Nurse stated. “He just showed up today with some soreness at shooataround so they’re going to try and figure out what’s going on.”
As far as Paul George is concerned, he is set to miss his 11th straight game to begin the season. He is working his way back from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery and he met with the doctors over the weekend. Nurse stated something similar for George as it is with Embiid.
“He has been looked at this weekend,” Nurse explained. “He also has a doctor and the surgeons here this evening as well to go over that as well. So, again, we’ll have some more info on where he is and his status shortly.”
The Sixers will need both Embiid and George in order to really succeed and go deep into the playoffs when April and May roll around. Obviously, they want to take it slow with both of them in an effort to really prepare them for what’s to come. This will be a slow process for both stars to get on the court fully.
