New Childcare Center Opens in Kansas City with Support from LINC Program

The excitement among parents visiting Christina Puckett’s newly established childcare center, Kids in Christ Academy, is palpable. Located at a prime spot on 39th and Troost Avenue in Kansas City, this facility has quickly become a community favorite, with some parents following Puckett from her previous location while others are eager to explore the new program.

Puckett recalls the joy expressed by parents as they leave the center, often sharing their enthusiasm with incoming parents. “It’s beautiful. It’s beautiful,” they exclaim, reflecting the positive energy surrounding the new space.

Puckett’s journey in childcare began in 1989, and she has been dedicated to this field since launching her first business in 2007. Her unwavering passion for nurturing children, alongside a committed team, has allowed her to persevere through challenges, including those presented by the pandemic.

A significant turning point came in 2020 when Puckett connected with LINC’s early childhood program support team, which she credits for playing an instrumental role in her center’s development. “We’ve done so much together,” she told Sarah Ramirez, LINC Early Childhood Coordinator, during a recent visit. “You stuck with me through the pandemic. And here we are.”

In 2019, LINC reached out to childcare providers to offer public-funded initiatives aimed at strengthening childcare in the region. At that time, Kids in Christ Academy was situated at 42nd and Indiana Avenue. Puckett and her staff engaged with LINC’s training sessions, focusing on improving classroom management, lesson engagement, and accommodating children with special behavioral needs. Additionally, support from LINC included enhancements to safety and cleanliness as well as upgrades to furniture and classroom layouts.

Earlier this year, an opportunity arose when the Kansas City Area Transit Authority sought bids for childcare services at their transit center at 39th and Troost. Kids in Christ Academy rose to the occasion, winning the bid and paving the way for expansion in a larger space.

“The chance to help a strong childcare program move into such an important location fell perfectly in line with LINC’s mission,” remarked Ramirez. She emphasized the critical nature of early childhood development, noting that foundational learning occurs from birth to age five.

Puckett reflected on the partnership with LINC, expressing gratitude for their resources and support, which helped manifest her vision for a thriving childcare center. The collaboration led to profound growth; in 2024, LINC worked with seven childcare centers, benefiting over 400 children and training numerous teachers.

As Puckett guided guests through the vibrant center, the clean classrooms and inviting atmosphere showcased the thoughtful design aimed at creating a nurturing environment. The facility also features a spacious, enclosed outdoor area, providing a safe play environment for the children.

The partnership with LINC has proven to be beneficial for both parties. “I’m glad LINC as an organization was able to give resources and support that really helped (Puckett) see her vision,” Ramirez concluded, highlighting the importance of their collaboration.

With Puckett and her dedicated staff, the center not only represents a place for learning but also embodies a fond family connection to the community it serves.
