Why Was Akon ‘Locked Up’ in Georgia? Here’s What We Know About His Arrest

Singer Akon was arrested last week in DeKalb County, Georgia, according to police records. The 52-year-old, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by the Chamblee Police Department on the morning of November 7 and released about six hours later.

Authorities say the arrest stemmed from a warrant issued two months earlier in Roswell, Georgia, after police discovered Akon had been driving with a suspended license. The incident dates back to September, when officers found him stranded with his Tesla Cybertruck on the roadside due to a dead battery.

When his vehicle was towed, police learned his license had been suspended for failing to appear in court in January 2023. Officers also confiscated an illegal vape found in the car’s center console.

Akon, currently touring in India, has not publicly commented on the arrest and continues posting on social media as usual.
