Rooney Hits Out at Man Utd’s Big-Name Signings

Wayne Rooney has listed Paul Pogba among Manchester United’s three strangest signings before the INEOS takeover, criticising the club’s ‘big name’ policy.
Pogba, 32, resigned for Man United from Juventus back in the summer of 2016 for a reported club record fee of £89 million.

The midfielder didn’t quite live up to the price tag and was largely criticised for his off-field antics before heading back to Juve in 2022.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Rooney didn’t hold back when talking about the club’s recruitment before INEOS took over.
“The recruitment at Manchester United before last summer was horrendous,” he said.
“They were just bringing big names in – you look at Lukaku, Zlatan, Pogba – they’re good players but they were just bringing names in and spending enormous amounts of money. It’s going to take a bit of time to get over those mistakes.”
