A delighted Sainsbury’s customer says she felt like a “lottery winner” following the arrival of her online grocery shopping order earlier this week. While online food shopping can often result in frustration due to lack of stock or the delivery of inexplicable substitute items, in rare cases, customers seemingly strike gold.

That was the case for one woman who took to Reddit after her delivery to share her good news. “Feel like a lottery winner this morning,” she wrote.

“Ordered a leg of lamb from Sainsbury’s and got a bonus leg free,” she continued, alongside a snap of the meat in her kitchen. The fresh whole legs – priced at £14.84 and £18.24 for Nectar card users, proved even more of a bargain owing to the fact they’d set non-card holders back a whopping £29.67 and £36.49.

According to the Sainsbury’s website, British or New Zealand whole legs of lamb (2.3kg approx.) can be snapped up at the discounted rate for a limited time only.

Writing in response, one Reddit user quipped: “Don’t let Sainsbury’s try to take back the extra one if they find out. They don’t have a leg to stand on.”

A second person recalled: “I had something like that happen, I ordered one T9940 tape and I received two and I didn’t order two, just one which is incredibly lucky as those are pretty expensive.”

A third shared their supermarket success story: “I got a text from Asda about two weeks ago to say my £80 shop had been cancelled and I wouldn’t receive my delivery… it had already been delivered, got it all the day before I got this text. Winning.”

Whilst a fourth individual declared: “Winning! This is like the time I was refunded my whole Tesco order twice! It was originally just shy of £200. I had submitted a refund request for a damaged case of eggs. Of course I kept quiet about it.”

And a fifth pondered: “I like to think this is an employee ‘sticking it to the man’ and putting an extra one in.

“There’s been countless reports of Amazon parcels turning up with higher capacity hard drives and more expensive things than what was ordered. But £14/£18 is insane for meat (and that’s Nectar prices!).”

Meanwhile, if you are planning your online Christmas food shop, delivery slots with Sainsbury’s are already being allocated.

Sainsbury’s Christmas delivery slots opened on October 23, meaning shoppers can order food to be delivered between December 18 and 24.

You can amend your shop until 11pm the day before your delivery or collection is due.
