Flu on the rise: H3N2 hits kids hardest as Ontario sees early surge

Some concerning stats on this year’s flu season in Ontario and the rest of the country.
New data from Public Health Ontario shows that there was a 1.8 percent increase in influenza cases in the province in the last week of October.
There were three outbreaks, 14 hospitalizations, and 129 cases reported during that time.
Health officials say the cases of influenza A were highest among children aged 5 to 11 at 7.8 per cent, followed by 12- to 19-year-olds at 4.2 per cent.
The H3N2 strain has been on the rise this year. It’s a subtype of influenza A.
Infants, the elderly, and those who are immunocompromised are hit hardest if they get the virus.
