Children told to stay inside school building after reported threat

Children at Redruth School in Cornwall were instructed to “remain within the school building” today following a reported threat made to a student.

Parents and carers received a text message from the school this morning, alerting them to a “potential situation external to the school” and confirming that students were remaining indoors as a safety precaution.

Coinciding with the police response, the nearby road, Tolgus Vean, was closed in both directions between the A3047 and Tesco.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed their attendance, stating: “We were called at around 10.20am on Friday 14 November following a report of a threat made to a student in Redruth by another young person.

“Officers attended a school to ensure the student was kept safe.

“It was determined the threat was not viable.

“Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.”

Redruth School later confirmed that the external situation had been resolved and that students were safely continuing with their day as normal.
