The suspect was about to be arrested as he disembarked a TGV train, suspected of having made death threats against his ex-partner, local media reports.
The man allegedly attempted to stab himself in the throat when police intervened.
They then opened fire in an attempt to disarm him.
The suspect is said to have sustained serious leg injuries.
A second person was reportedly shot in the foot during the police operation, according to Actu17 news.
A security perimeter has been put in place, and the station has been partially evacuated.
The Paris prosecutor’s office said: “It appears from the very first information brought to our attention that a man known for domestic violence had brandished a knife, and that a police officer used his weapon to stop him.
“The man then reportedly stabbed himself.”
In April, a 15-year-old student went on a knife rampage before being tackled to the ground by teachers.
The attacker, wearing black clothing and a balaclava, stabbed four students, who were rushed to the hospital.
And in February, France was rocked when a knifeman killed one and injured five in a horror terror-related ambush on police officers.
It comes just days after a car ramming attack left some 10 people injured in France.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the “deliberate” attack, which saw a car carrying gas cannisters in its boot driven into the crowd.
There were fears the attacker might be linked to a terrorist group because he was heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” – Arabic for “God is the Greatest” and an expression often used by Islamist groups.
