In 2023, Blumhouse and Universal Pictures turned a cult video game into a box-office monster. Five Nights at Freddy’s became the highest-grossing horror movie of the year, pulling in nearly $300 million worldwide and sparking a new wave of animatronic terror. Now, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we are thrilled to reveal a chilling new image from the highly anticipated sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which reunites Josh Hutcherson’s Mike, Elizabeth Lail’s Vanessa, and Piper Rubio’s Abby. The trio looks terrified by something off-camera — a perfect tease that the nightmare isn’t over, and that danger has followed them far beyond the walls of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Set one year after the supernatural events of the first film, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 finds the survivors struggling to move on. In their small town, the story of Freddy’s has already warped into a campfire tale, inspiring the first-ever “Fazfest” — a kitschy local celebration that proves some legends should stay buried. Mike and Vanessa have done everything to protect Abby from the truth about her animatronic friends, but when she sneaks out to find them, her decision reignites horrors that were never meant to be unearthed.

The sequel marks the return of director Emma Tammi, who once again collaborates with series creator Scott Cawthon, ensuring continuity between the film’s mythology and the games that inspired it. The returning cast includes Theodus Crane as Jeremiah and Matthew Lillard as William Afton, whose sinister presence still looms large. Joining the ensemble are Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and horror veteran Skeet Ulrich.
Produced by Jason Blum and Cawthon, with Tammi among the executive producers, including Beatriz Sequeira, Christopher Warner, Russell Binder, and Marc Mostman, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 aims to expand the franchise’s world while digging deeper into its haunted origins. Blumhouse’s first Freddy’s shattered expectations with its blend of practical effects, game-faithful designs, and emotional core. Early glimpses of the sequel suggest an even more ambitious, lore-driven continuation. After dominating Halloween 2023, Freddy and his friends are poised to return with something even more sinister. Expect bigger scares, deeper secrets, and a new reason to never trust the dark corners of an arcade.
Audiences can return to Freddy’s when Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 opens in theaters on December 5, 2025. Stay tuned for more of Collider’s Winter Preview Event coverage, spanning the most exciting television and film releases in the coming months.
