A historic building in downtown Wilmington has been damaged by fire for the second time since 2023.
Around midday on Nov. 14, a fire broke out at the Graystone Inn on 100 S. Third St. Crews were on the scene working to stop the blaze as of 1:40 p.m. It’s unknown the extent of the damage.
Parts of the roof started to collapse around 2 p.m.
“We did do a primary search when we got on the scene, and as far as we know there was no one in the building,” said Rebekah Thurston, public information officer for the Wilmington Fire Department.
Third Street remains blocked off from Orange to Market streets as of 2:45 p.m.
The inn has been closed since June 2023 as work was ongoing to repair the building after another fire caused extensive damages.
