‘Wicked: For Good’ Is Fandango’s Biggest PG Pre-Seller Of All Time & Highest Overall For 2025

Universal’s Wicked: For Good is bound to cast a huge spell at the pre-Thanksgiving box office. Fandango reports that the Jon M. Chu-directed second chapter is its best PG-rated ticket pre-seller of all time. In addition, the Universal theatrical release is the best advance-ticket seller of 2025. The movie opens on November 21.

Advance tickets for Wicked: For Good went on sale October 8. The biggest domestic opening YTD, in addition to being the biggest for the year as far as PG ratings go, is Warner Bros/Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie at $162.7M.

The Cynthia Erivo-Ariana Grande movie’s advance-ticket sales unseat previous PG-rated top sellers Beauty and the Beast ($174.7M in 2017), last year’s Wicked and 2019’s Frozen 2 ($130.2M), at the same point in the sales cycle.

As the biggest ticket pre-seller year-to-date, Wicked: For Good surpasses Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle ($70.6M), Superman ($125M) and Taylor Swift | The Official Release Party of a Showgirl ($34M), at the same point in the sales cycle.

When Wicked: For Good hit tracking on October 30, the forecast was pegged at $112M-$115M+. Sources believe that projection is significantly higher now. The first Wicked opened to $112.5M stateside, a record for a feature adaptation of a Broadway musical. Realize, though, that when it comes to a popular female-skewing movie, ticket sales can be front-loaded, hence not an exact predictor of a title’s opening. The biggest PG opening ever at the domestic box office belongs to 2019’s The Lion King from Disney, which debuted to $191.7M.

“With fans shattering records on Fandango when tickets first went on sale for Wicked: For Good, it was clear that this electrifying finale to the worldwide sensation would soar to the same heights as the first film,” said Jerramy Hainline, EVP of Fandango. “Audiences are in for a true cinematic event as they return to Oz, experiencing it on the biggest screen possible as it was meant to be seen.”
