Threat of giant hail as Sydney braces for wild storms

Sydney has been thrashed by a massive spring storm, with some areas showered with hail and deafening claps of thunder heard throughout the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm alert for large parts of the state on Saturday afternoon, with warnings of damaging winds, possible giant hailstones and heavy rainfall.
A second alert was later issued just after 4pm, warning severe thunderstorms detected near Camden and Sydney Olympic Park were moving to the southeast and were likely to bring damaging winds and giant hail.
The storms eased just before 5pm, but the BOM warned there was a chance they could redevelop.
Loud claps of thunder were heard ringing out across Greater Sydney, while Sydney’s south was showered in hailstones.
