‘Multiple’ suspects at-large after smash-and-grab robbery at Newmarket shopping centre

Police in York Region are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at shopping centre in Newmarket on Saturday.
The incident happened Upper Canada Mall at 17600 Yonge St. at Davis Drive.
York Regional Police said they were called to the shopping centre just after 3:30 p.m.
Investigators say “multiple” suspects armed with hammers entered a jewelry store, smashed display cases, and stole a quantity of jewelry before fleeing the area.
Video footage obtained by CP24 shows what looks to be three suspects in dark clothing smashing and removing unknown items from display cases at Peoples Jewellers before running away from the store followed by a security guard and a police officer with his gun drawn.
As a result, people are being advised to expect a large police presence at the mall and are being urged to avoid the area.
