Solo Leveling’s Return Halted By Yet Another Delay

Solo Leveling’s major manhwa return has been an exciting moment for fans of Jinwoo’s story. The Solo Leveling: Ragnarok manhwa has continued to take the story of Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho, in unexpected new directions – but fans will now have to wait a few more weeks to learn what happens to him next.

The publisher of the Solo Leveling manhwa and light novel, D&C Media, announced on Wednesday, November 12, that Solo Leveling: Ragnarok will be taking a 2-week break. The series is expected to return from this hiatus on November 26 with Chapter 63. While this is unfortunate timing considering the manhwa only just recently returned, it might actually be a blessing in disguise for English-speaking readers.

D&C Media’s announcement (posted on X and Kakaopage) explained that Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is going on hiatus to allow time for “work reorganization.” This is a pretty enigmatic excuse, but it’s not unreasonable. As the plot thickens for Suho, it makes sense Daul, Jin and Brix might need time to work out the details of the story.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok has been returning from hiatuses of all kinds recently, so this latest hiatus is really nothing new. The manhwa itself only just started back up in August after taking a nearly two-month break with the release of its “Season 1 finale” chapter 47. However, even though the Korean manhwa started back up right away, there was no official English translation of the chapters throughout the past 3 months of releases. The English-translated release of the manhwa via Tapas only finally returned on November 11 – literally one day before the manhwa’s latest hiatus announcement.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’s new two-week hiatus was clearly unplanned, because it was announced on the day Solo Leveling: Ragnarok Chapter 63 was due to be released. While this break is disappointing for fans of the manhwa who have kept a close eye on the Korean release every week, it does at least provide the official English translation some extra time to potentially catch up to the latest chapters.

At the time of writing, the English release on Tapas has only gotten up to Chapter 57, with Chapter 58 due for release on November 15. By the time Daul’s manhwa continues on November 26, the English release will only be a few chapters behind. In a sense, this hiatus is actually good for English-speaking Solo Leveling fans, because it allows a chance for English readers to get up to speed.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’s Latest Chapters Are Already Moving at a Snail’s Pace

While it’s a potential win for English fans, everyone else will definitely feel the weight of this latest Solo Leveling: Ragnarok manhwa hiatus. It’s particularly unfortunate because the manhwa’s story has already been moving quite slowly. The current arc is largely a preparatory one, as Sung Suho galvanizes with the South Korean S-Rank Hunters to devise a plan to help Suho become strong enough to defeat the Apostle of Itarim.

In the process, Suho came to realize that the equipment he crafts with his Shadow Creation skill can be leveled up by other Hunters who wear them. This effectively allows Suho’s allies to grow stronger alongside him, even if they don’t technically level up with the system in the same way Suho does. As interesting as these new developments are, there hasn’t been a serious fight for Suho in 4 chapters, and even the most recent big fight for Suho (his duel with Hwang Dongsoo) wasn’t exactly high-stakes. This slow build to the next major conflict is definitely hurting the hype around the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok manhwa a bit, and this hiatus definitely won’t help.

On the positive side, by the time the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok manhwa does arrive at the end of November, hype around other aspects of the franchise may be reaching greater levels. On November 17, the Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive videogame is due to release. There has also been a good deal of speculation surrounding a potential Solo Leveling movie release, though no official announcements have been made just yet.

This potential anime movie in development could explain the lack of a Solo Leveling Season 3 announcement, but the Solo Leveling live action Netflix series still remains anomalous at this point as well. There have been no new developments about the Netflix adaptation since the announcement of Han So Hee joining the cast back in August. There’s definitely a lot going on behind the scenes (or, better yet, within the shadows) for the Solo Leveling IP right now, so the stars may truly all align at once for the series. In the meantime, though, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’s hiatus is a tough blow to a manhwa that was already taking a while to get to the good part.
