France predicted XI v Azerbaijan: Didier Deschamps to fully rotate, Lucas Chevalier set for debut

9

France secured their qualification for next summer’s FIFA World Cup, thanks to Thursday’s 4-0 win over Ukraine.

It means that there is nothing riding on Sunday evening’s game away to Azerbaijan. Kylian Mbappé is one of the players who has not even made the journey. The captain is suffering from ankle inflammation and has returned to Real Madrid, as has Eduardo Camavinga, who also missed the win over Ukraine through injury. Randal Kolo Muani is not fit to play, whilst Manu Koné is suspended for the game.

With Didier Deschamps rotating, Mbappé and Koné likely would not have started anyway, as none of the players that were in the XI at the Parc des Princes are expected to start for France against Azerbaijan. It is expected that Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier will make his debut for Les Bleus in goal, whilst Ibrahima Konaté is expected to captain the side.

France likely line-up v Azerbaijan

Lucas Chevalier; Théo Hernandez, Lucas Hernandez, Ibrahima Konaté, Malo Gusto; Christopher Nkunku, Khéphren Thuram, Warren Zaire-Emery, Maghnes Akliouche; Hugo Ekitiké, Jean-Philippe Mateta. (L’Éq)
