Report: Mariners finalizing five-year contract extension with Naylor

The Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract extension for Canadian infielder Josh Naylor, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Sunday.

Naylor, 28, finished last season with the Mariners after he was dealt from the Arizona Diamondback for pitchers Brandyn Garcia and Ashton Izzi in July.

The Mississauga, Ont., native slashed .295/.353/.462 last season with 20 home runs and 92 RBI split between the Diamondbacks and Astros.

Naylor helped the Mariners to a 90-72 record to win the AL West and eventually took the Toronto Blue Jays to seven games in the American League Championship Series before falling.

Drafted 12th overall by the Miami Marlins in 2015, Naylor has a career batting average of .269 with 104 home runs and 435 RBI split between the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians, Diamondbacks and Mariners.
