Fisherman reels in monster surprise from Queensland river

A Queensland fisherman has relived the moment he caught a huge bull shark in the Logan River.

Shane Gallagher told Today the weekend catch was so massive, he almost threw his back out trying to reel in the monster.

He said when he saw the size of the shark, it took his breath away, but he still believes there are others even larger out there in the river.

“There’s big bull sharks in the Logan River, I’d say there’s probably bigger ones than that, but this was definitely still good to catch one of that size,” he said.

Shane said it was actually a slow day to start and he and his mate were doing a bit of crabbing until something bigger came along.

And when they felt the tug on the line, they know they’d found something a lot bigger than a crab.

“It took us about 45 minutes to get that thing in, I think we were just as tired as it was,” Shane said.

”I actually had to hand the rod to my mate for the last five minutes because my back had just given out.”

The pair dragged their catch to the riverbank for some glory photos, then released the shark back into the water.
