Glitz and glamour as stars hit the red carpet at the Governors Awards

The Oscars are several months away yet, but we’ve just been given a glimpse of some of the red carpet glamour we can expect from the ceremony.

Stars of the screen have assembled in Los Angeles for the annual Governors Awards, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

From Jennifer Lawrence and Sydney Sweeney to Hugh Jackman and The Rock, the guest list included some of the most talked-about celebrities of 2025.

Sweeney, who’s made headlines this year for all kinds of reasons, glittered under the lights in a white gown covered in silver detailing.

An even more eye-catching detail was revealed when she turned around, with a train of fabric flowing from around the bodice of her dress and onto the carpet behind her.

Also wearing a striking white dress was Laurence, who gave Grecian goddess energy thanks to the drapery of her outfit.

Pale shades of peppermint green also proved popular on the carpet.

Kate Hudson looked like she was right out of the ’30s in a beautiful silky gown with bedazzled detailing and intricate cutouts on the sleeves, teamed with a wavy bob.

Dakota Johnson wore a similar shade in a strapless dress with gathering at the waist – a departure from the ‘naked’ gowns she’s favoured at revent events.

Green was also the colour of choice for Lili Reinhart, who shone in a slinky dress featuring floral motifs and gold details.

Emily Blunt brought a sensational pop of colour in her striking red gown, featuring a structural fan detail at the shoulder and a sheer panel at her hips.

Her co-star in The Smashing Machine, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, was by her side, but he let Blunt have her moment in the spotlight as she showcased her dress.

Wicked‘s leading ladies Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande looked stunning in pink and green gowns, with this event proving less eventful than their most recent public outing.

On Thursday, Erivo stepped in to protect Grande as she was ambushed by a fan at the premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore, the incident making global news.

Jennifer Lopez knows how to bring the drama to the red carpet, and her outfit for the Governors Awards was an all-timer!

The singer and actress wore a stunning black and cream creation, with the contrasting panels of the dress creating a silhouette of its own.

The gown, teamed with black opera gloves, was completed with corset-style fastenings at the back.
