Rangers boss Danny Rohl is considering hiring a set-piece specialist to help combat his side’s long-term failings from dead balls.

The German has earned praise for his front-foot attitude since replacing Russell Martin and has sparked a rapport with the fanbase which was posted missing during the former Scotland international’s ill-fated three-month reign.

Now the 36-year-old is mulling over hiring a coach whose focus is on set-pieces both offensively and defensively with the Ibrox side prone to conceding while also lacking a cutting edge in the opposition’s box.

Rangers improved against Dundee with Nico Raskin rediscovering his knack from set plays as he headed home at Dens Park and was brilliantly denied a brace by Jon McCracken in the second half.

Key Martin lieutenant Mike Williamson handled set plays under the previous regime before departing but the Rangers Review state Rohl is on the lookout for his own hire.

And the new appointment could well be joined by a coach with experience of Rangers with Rohl aiming to add someone with a connection to the club.

Neil McCann worked under Barry Ferguson and he is understood to be an option, as is club icon Steven Davis who has been strongly linked with a return to the club he adores.

Rohl’s approach has earned him early kudos with fans chanting his name during three consecutive Premiership wins and he turned heads with a visit to Ibrox midweek to meet the staff who work in the background.

Rangers return to Premiership action against Livingston on Saturday, November 22.
