Glam dancing stars Kessler Twins die at 89 after vowing to be buried together

ICONIC showbiz duo the Kessler Twins have died aged 89 – just a year after vowing they would be buried together.

Alice and Ellen Kessler passed away at their home near Munich after reportedly choosing to end their lives side-by-side, just as they had lived for nearly nine decades.

Officers from Germany’s K12 specialist unit were called to the legendary entertainers’ property around midday on Monday to confirm the tragic news.

The possibility of foul play was ruled out.

Police said the duo opted to die by “accompanied euthanasia”, a legal but strictly regulated form of euthanasia in Germany.

The law stipulates that the person must “act on their own responsibility and of their own free will”.

They must also be of legal age and of sound mind.

German newspaper Bild reported that the twins “no longer wanted to live” and that “they had chosen to end their lives together”.

Last April, they told the newspaper of their desire to share an urn after death.

They added that their ashes will be rested alongside their cherished mother Elsa and dog Yello.

The glamorous blondes were born on the cusp of the Second World War in Nerchau, Saxony.

They shot to international stardom in the 1950s and 60s.

They wowed audiences with their synchronised dancing and sparkling costumes, appearing on the Perry Como and Rolf Harris shows.

At the Eurovision Song Contest, they placed 8th for West Germany with the song “Tonight we want to go dancing”.

In 1962, the pair set off for Italy and landed more serious roles.

They reinvented themselves beyond their glitzy dance personas and became renowned through the 60s variety show Studio Uno.

Their fame landed them a shoot with Playboy, and their cover issue became the fastest-selling Italian Playboy at the time.

Amongst the pair’s numerous achievements are the Golden Rose of Montreux and the Federal Cross of Merit.
