Air Transat pilots plan informational pickets in Montreal & Toronto on Nov. 17

Air Transat pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), will hold informational pickets on Monday, November 17, at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

The action follows 10 months of negotiations that pilots say have seen limited progress, and more than a decade without a new collective agreement.

According to ALPA, pilots are seeking updates to benefits, job protections, work rules and compensation.

The group says Air Transat pilots have accepted two contract extensions over the past 10 years and are now pushing for what they describe as a contract that reflects current industry conditions.

The pickets come as the pilots approach the end of a federally mandated conciliation period on November 18.

A 21-day cooling-off period begins November 19, meaning a strike or lockout could take place as early as December 10 if no agreement is reached.

ALPA members from across Canada and the United States, along with other union supporters, are expected to join pilots at both airports.
