Hawthorn Selects Aidan Schubert with Pick 23 in 2025 AFL Draft

Hawthorn has added athletic tall forward Aidan Schubert to their roster after selecting him with Pick 23 in the 2025 Telstra AFL Draft. At just 17 years old, Schubert is poised to turn 18 next month and is recognized for his potential as a formidable target in attack. His clean handling of the ball and impressive aerobic capacity are complemented by his versatility, which includes notable performances in the ruck throughout his junior career.
During an exceptional season at the club level, Schubert made a significant impact, scoring 28 goals in just 13 matches for Central District. His performance earned him the SANFL U18 MVP Award, underscoring his abilities on the field. Schubert also played a critical role in South Australia’s title-winning campaign at the National Championships, where he was not only a standout player but also finished fourth in the voting for the prestigious Larke Medal and received All-Australian recognition.
The young forward showcased his skill during the national tournament, averaging 17 disposals and seven marks per game. Highlight performances included an impressive four goals against the Allies and three goals in a commanding victory over Victoria Metro.
Schubert made his SANFL senior debut later in the season, further proving his readiness for higher levels of competition. He participated in the national Draft Combine, where he demonstrated his elite competitive edge and endurance, recording a remarkable time of 6:21 in the 2km time trial, which placed him eighth overall.

Physically, Schubert stands at 196 cm, and with his versatility, he is expected to make a significant contribution as both a forward and ruck option for Hawthorn moving forward. His football journey began at the community level with Gawler Central, and he is set to further develop his skills and impact at the professional level in the AFL.
