Jets sign captain Lowry to five-year contract extension

Winnipeg Jets centre and captain Adam Lowry has signed a five-year contract extension worth $25 million, the team announced on Wednesday.

The contract carries an average annual value of $5 million.

Lowry has served as team captain since the beginning of the 2023 season, and has spent all 12 of his NHL seasons playing in Winnipeg.

In 73 games a season ago, Lowry scored a career-high 16 goals and tallied 34 points to help the Jets claim the first Presidents’ Trophy in franchise history.

This extension had been in the works since before the season began, after the Jets also locked up forward Kyle Connor on an eight-year extension worth $96 million on October 8, just before the season began.

The extension keeps the 32-year-old Lowry in Winnipeg until 2030-31, and allows him – along with Connor and star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck – to continue to push for the first Stanley Cup Final appearance in franchise history.

It’s an achievement that has eluded the team despite postseason appearances in seven of the past eight seasons.

In 782 career NHL games, Lowry has 122 goals and 276 points.
