Welcome to Season 49’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
A good portion of the previews this week emphasises the Rizo, Sophi, and Savannah trio. Since Nate was voted out two episodes ago, they’ve been in the minority of the merged tribe. However, their situation’s far from hopeless as they each have an advantage—Rizo has a hidden immunity idol earned from the beware advantage, Savannah has an extra vote after banking her vote during last episode’s tribal council, and Sophi has a Knowledge Is Power advantage that is still kept a secret.

Now, this is where we can’t ignore the cast announcement for Survivor 50. Inside Survivor readers know that Savannah and Rizo are both on the season, so it pretty much guarantees that they’re going to place decently and be entertaining players on Survivor 49. It’s difficult to buy the previews hinting that Savannah is vulnerable and being targeted as she laments, “These people are literally obsessed with me,” knowing that she very likely escapes the other players’ attempts.
Putting the above together, I think we’ll see the trio successfully recruit players to join them in the coming episode. The NTOS trailer shows Rizo telling Sophie, “I want him out,” and likely also in the same convo that “Alex wants you out hard,” as seen in the promo trailer. I think Rizo has recognised Sophie as the crack in the majority alliance, rightfully, as she’s shown to be questioning her relationship with Steven and Kristina in the sneak preview scene. I think she’s an easy number to join the Rizo, Savannah, and Sophi trio if they can convince her there’s a sustainable plan moving forward, perhaps with their advantages.

The next bit of the NTOS trailer shows Jawan revealing to Alex, “He’s coming for you, bro.” I think he’s referring to Rizo pitching to vote Alex out, as he shared with Sophie. So far, Alex has been playing in the middle, positioning himself as the added number for the former Hina players, but also maintaining his relationship with former Kele player Sophi. I think we’ll see Alex forced to pick a side next episode, and that he’ll eventually stick to the majority with whom he has voted so far.
Just from the trailers, my wild prediction then is that Jawan will be targeted and voted out this week. I think the votes may land on him for spreading the chaos and revealing Rizo’s plans to Alex. We know that he’s not liked by Savannah, so targeting him is justifiable to maintain her sanity in the game.
