Pudsey smashes ‘2p Challenge’ record – despite stormy weather

An annual fundraiser for the BBC’s annual Children In Need appeal has smashed its previous record.
With fewer coins in circulation as more people switch to card payments and last year’s total of £3,236.43 setting a high bar, Pudsey still rose to the challenge in style.
At the Children in Need event on Friday, 14 November, the community raised an incredible £4,000.16, with more still coming in. The total came despite heavy rain.
The aim of the fundraiser is to fill an outline of Pudsey Bear on the floor of Pudsey leisure Centre.
Event organiser Councillors Dawn and Simon Seary (Cons, Pudsey) said: “The day was made possible thanks to Pudsey Leisure Centre staff, who opened the main hall and provided inflatables for families. Oh Hello Studio’s popular Paint a Pudsey activity added £388.32, and Debra Austin joined in the afternoon with face painting.
“A brilliant team of volunteers once again took on the challenge of counting the mountain of coins, cleared the hall, and prepared everything for collection. Thanks also to Farmac for helping move the bulk bags ready for banking.
“Most importantly, thank you to every resident who saved their spare change and came along to support the challenge. Your generosity has made this another fantastic year.”
