Portugal overtaken by Brazil in the rankings
The team’s last games, with the away defeat against Ireland (2-0) and the home victory against Armenia (9-1), left Portugal with a loss of 17.62 points, in contrast to Brazil, which rose to fifth position.
Portugal, which qualified for the 2026 World Cup and will enter the draw in pot 1, which contains the highest-ranked teams, now has 1,760.38 points, slightly behind Brazil, with 1,760.46. In the FIFA top 10 ranking, the Netherlands also saw a drop from sixth to seventh place, while Germany rose from 10th to ninth and Croatia from 11th to 10th.
Spain leads the world football ranking with 1,877.18 points, closely followed by Argentina with 1,873.33 and France with 1,870, while England occupies fourth place with 1,834.12 points.
Of the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), Cape Verde, which secured its first World Cup, remains the highest ranked, now with a rise of three places (68th).
