Low-cost airline easyJet is to launch three new summer routes from Bristol next year, taking its total number of destinations from the airport to nearly 90.
The carrier, which has 19 aircraft based at Bristol, is to operate the flights to Cape Verde, Seville and Bari from next April.
The move follows an announcement last month from easyJet, Bristol Airport’s largest operator, that it is to fly to Reus in Spain and the Greek port city of Thessaloniki next summer.
EasyJet will be the first budget airline to launch scheduled services to the five new routes from Bristol – widening further the airport’s range of destinations to more than 130 in 33 countries.
Flights to Cape Verdi, a popular holiday island off the West coast of Africa, will take off from 1 May and operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while Bari flights start on 18 April and those to Seville on 2 May
Both will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which easyJet says offer more city-break options for holidaymakers to those seeking a mix of “history, culture and charm”.
Meanwhile, easyJet’s new winter service from Bristol to Vienna takes off tomorrow, Friday 21 November.
EasyJet also became the only airline directly connecting Bristol with Munich and Zurich when those flights started last month. Another winter service, to Verona, will begin next month.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet UK country manager, said: “In our 30th year we’re still as committed as ever to making travel easy and affordable for our customers in the UK.
“With three new routes and package holidays now available to book from Bristol Airport for next summer, in addition to two we announced last month, we’re continuing to provide our customers in the South West with even more choice and connectivity at fantastic fares, and we look forward to welcoming them onboard.”
Rupert Lawrie, commercial director at Bristol Airport, said he was delighted to see easyJet continue to grow its network from Bristol.
“Seville is a fantastic new destination in our route network. Beyond being a vibrant and culturally rich city-break, the region is of particular significance to our business travellers and, in particular, the aerospace sector in the West of England due to the strong ties with Airbus’ Seville hub and the Andalusian aerospace cluster.
“Bari is also an exciting new route for customers, as Bristol Airport will be the only English airport outside of London to offer direct flights to this stunning region of Italy.
“We anticipate strong demand for inbound customers visiting the South West, supporting our region’s economy.
“And Cape Verde is another excellent holiday hotspot joining our summer schedule, providing even more choice for customers seeking year-round sunshine and a unique island experience.
“These additions come alongside the launch of Vienna and Verona further enhancing the breadth of destinations available from Bristol.”
