Bompastor: Let’s prove what a good team we are | News | Official Site

Sonia Bompastor wants to see the best version of her Chelsea side when we take on Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the Women’s Champions League this evening.
The Blues have had some good battles with Barca in recent seasons, although we didn’t do ourselves justice in the semi-finals earlier this year, losing 8-2 on aggregate.
Our head coach knows if we are to avenge those defeats we will need to perform at our best – and Bompastor is confident we can do exactly that.
‘Every game against Barcelona is a big challenge, I don’t feel any different this season compared to previous seasons,’ said Bompastor.
‘They are a really good team, but I also trust the quality we have in our squad. We are expecting the game to be a top game, but we are ready for the challenge and we’ll focus also on ourselves.
‘If we are able to apply the game plan and play at our best level, we have a chance of having a good game and beating them,’ added Bompastor.
‘I just want to make sure going into the game we put in our best performance to prove how good we are as a team and the fact we can compete against them.’
Bompastor has a rich history in the Champions League. She captained Lyon to glory in both 2011 and 2012, and more recently steered them to the much-coveted trophy as head coach in 2022.
Bompastor lives for nights such as these. It is why she is so excited to see what unfolds at the Bridge later on.
‘The Champions League is the best competition for a club to play in: the atmosphere, the big games, the fans coming to the game. The competition is high in the game.
‘It just brings all the excitement and when you are a fan of the game, you want to be having those big games, those Champions League nights, and just enjoy being around that.’
