2 youths stabbed in Oshawa, area school under hold-and-secure order

Durham regional police are asking residents to avoid the area after two youths were stabbed in northern Oshawa, Ont., prompting a school to be placed under a hold-and-secure order.

Police responded Thursday to the area of Harmony Road North and Coldstream Drive, where officers found two victims suffering from stab wounds. It’s unclear what time the incident happened but officials shared the update on social media shortly after 1 p.m.

One of the youths has been taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre, police said. However in an update shared just before 2 p.m., officials say both injuries are believed to be “non-life-threatening.”

As a result, Maxwell Heights Secondary School has been placed under a hold-and-secure order as officers continue to search for the suspect. It’s unclear whether the incident took place on school property, though Maxwell Heights is located at the intersection provided by police for the call.

Police say no one is in custody, adding that they believe this is an “isolated incident.”

A large police presence remains in the area, and investigators are urging residents to stay away.

Both victims are in non-life-threatening condition.
