East and midlands feel the chill as Met Éireann issues Status Yellow low-temperature warning

A Status Yellow warning for low temperatures was issued by Met Éireann for 10 counties, coming into effect at 11pm on Thursday night and remaining in place until 8am today.
The warning is in place for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, and Tipperary.
There would be widespread frost and some icy stretches, Met Éireann said, with minimum air temperatures of -3C. Temperatures may be even lower in some local areas.
Possible effects during the warning include hazardous travelling conditions and animal welfare issues.
According to its extended-range forecast, Met Éireann said low pressure in northern parts of Europe would lead to “wetter than average” rainfall with “above normal” temperatures for this time of year.
As for the remainder of this week, it is set to turn “unsettled” with spells of rain.
It will be a cold morning right across the country, with widespread frost and some icy stretches predicted. It will a dry and sunny start before cloud builds up to bring some patches of light rain or drizzle.
After developing in the west, that cloud and rain will spread across the country during the afternoon, and it will turn breezy. That rain may turn heavy at times in the west.
Highest temperatures during the afternoon will range between 3 and 9C. It will be coldest in the north and east of the country.
