A generous make-up tycoon has reportedly been lending Meghan Markle and Prince Harry her luxury mansions — that make their home “look like a prison”.

Meghan Markle has had a close friendship with Victoria Jackson, an entrepreneur in the cosmetics sector, for years and has gushed about the 70-year-old woman in previous media interviews. In one, she called Victoria her “safe harbour,” a phrase with huge significance now following Meghan’s links with the woman.

The Duchess of Sussex spent her 41st birthday at Victoria’s ranch near Santa Barbara, California, and is said to feel “at home” in the entrepreneur’s properties. A source said: “Victoria’s houses make their place in Montecito look like a prison or a beach shack. It suits them for security, the houses are unbelievable, and they don’t have to pay at all, which is also appealing.”

Meghan and Victoria’s connection has come to light after the Duchess of Sussex has spent 2025 desperately trying to rebrand, following the end of her and Harry’s Netflix deal. However, she is yet to strike gold and questions remain about how the couple are to continue their affluent lifestyle — without a return to Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex frequently use the Jackson’s 14-bedroom Beverly Hills mansion, originally built for silent film star Buster Keaton, as a base, it is said. With a 50ft living room, 60ft pool, staff quarters and olive-lined driveway, it is a far cry from Meghan and Harry’s Montecito home.

Yet, Victoria also has another mansion in Montecito, reportedly where Meghan had a birthday party — instead of her own house in the same town. Meghan, who met Victoria through mutual friends, has supported the make-up tycoon’s business ventures, it is thought.

The Daily Mail today reports on the friendship, and how this has developed over the years. Alison Boshoff, editor at large at the publication, wrote: “In an interview in 2021, Meghan referred to Jackson as her ‘safe harbour’ – and now we know what she meant.”

Yet, the editor makes no further comment about the term. Meghan used the phrase in 2021 during a time when she and Harry had faced scrutiny for various interviews to the media, notably including the lengthy chats with Oprah Winfrey. The couple sat down with Oprah for a tell-all interview about their split from the Royal Family.

The couple revealed there had been “concerns” over the colour of their son Archie’s skin and said Prince Charles had stopped taking Harry’s phone calls. They also revealed they secretly got married before their royal wedding.
