Marco Jansen Joins Mark Boucher, Shaun Pollock With Yet Another Fifty vs India

The all-rounder scored his fourth half-century in Test cricket with some audacious strokeplay

It has been a frustrating day for India in Guwahati. Across the two sessions, they have picked up just one wicket, allowing South Africa to take control of the game, Moreover, they have scored at a run-rate of 4.31 to further add to India’s woes.

First it was Senuran Muthusamy and Kyle Verreynne, who put on 88 for the seventh wicket, and now Muthusamy has put on 94 for the eighth wicket with Marco Jansen, who has brought up his fourth fifty, his second against India.

In doing so, Jansen has joined a few South African greats to have scored multiple fifties against India, batting at seven or lower.

Most fifties for South Africa batting at No. 7 or lower vs India

4 – Mark Boucher

4 – Brian McMillan

3 – Shaun Pollock

2 – Marco Jansen

Jansen came into bat at nine for South Africa in this match and got going immediately as he has smashed four sixes and three fours in his knock so far. Previously, Jansen had scored an unbeaten 84 against India at Centurion in 2023. He has played a pivotal role in the Proteas getting to a commanding 428/7 at lunch on Day 2 in the ongoing Test in Guwahati

India are on the back foot as South Africa have a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, thanks to their 30-run win in the first Test in Kolkata. A draw or a win in Guwahati will result in a historic series win for the visitors.
