Kevin Byard doesn’t hold back on strong message to Chicago Bears teammates

There’s a long way to go between now and the NFC North leading Chicago Bears making the playoffs, and safety Kevin Byard doesn’t even want his teammates thinking about the postseason.
Beginning Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bears face the second-most difficult remaining strength of schedule across the league, so unless Chicago keeps stacking victories on top of a 7-3 start, Byard and his teammates could find themselves out in the cold when the playoffs kickoff in January.

The Bears face the second-most difficult remaining strength of schedule, and Byard has a clear message for his teammates; stay where your feet are.
“We’re not thinking about the playoffs, and that’s something I try to preach to the guys,” Byard told reporters on Wednesday. “We haven’t done anything yet. We’re 7-3, I get it, the city’s excited—you know what I mean, it hasn’t been a whole lot of winning here, but we haven’t accomplished anything. And honestly, nobody remembers what you do in October and September and even this early part of November. People remember what you do in November, December, and January, so that’s what we want to be remembered by. … Because if you want to be remembered as a great player in this league or a great player in this city, it’s about what we do from here on now, it’s not about what we’ve done before.”
Byard has been a driving force behind the Bears’ success on defense, pulling down a league-high five interceptions, and now is stepping out as a leader hoping to keep his teammates’ focused on the task at hand without getting lost in playoff talk and scenarios.
