Schools locked down while police conduct large-scale operation in Sydney’s Beaumont Hills for toy guns

Students at several schools have been forced into lockdown during a police operation.

NSW Police announced there was a “large police presence” in Beaumont Hills, in Sydney’s northwest, after a person was seen walking along Guardian Avenue “carrying firearms” about 11am on Monday.

“Several nearby schools were placed into lockdown as a precaution,” NSW Police said.

Footage from the scene shows dozens of officers, including the dog squad, had descended on the suburb while nearby schools appeared motionless.

Police announced at midday the operation had concluded and the “lockdowns have since been lifted”.

“Police commenced a large search of the area and, following inquiries, were able to speak to the person and established the firearms seen were toys that had been picked up from a local cleanup,” NSW Police said.

“Police treat all reports seriously and thank the community for their assistance.”

There have been no arrests or charges in relation to the matter.
